XLR8R drops a stream of consiousness piece with Flying Lotus. Take away the odd "wonky" references and it turns out to be very insightful, particularly his views on the spiritual nature of music, distaste for trendy club scenes, and crazy RZA stories. In addition to the piece, there’s also a nice bonus musical Q & A and record sampling.
Head over to XLR8R to check out the full interview plus Q & A.
Its weird to me that even music critics, people who are deeply vested in music and spend their lives listening to and contemplating all types of artists, would even give creedence to those weird category labels, like “wonk-hop”. I rember thinking it was strange back when people were using the word “grunge” to link bands like Nirvana, Mudhoney, and Alice in Chains, when they all sounded so different…just cause they all happened to be from Seattle. Its fargin bullshit.
I fully agree with you… those strange labels just cheapen the music and make it sound gimmicky.
