Lord Finesse talks about the meaning behind Diggin’ In The Crates, hardcore crate digging, the importance of music knowledge, and tells glorious record convention stories.
Notable Quote:
If you’re gonna get in this game. Do it because you genuinely love music. It’s not about the records. It’s not about the drum machine. It’s always about the individual, the creativity of the individual. And most importantly… chase your dreams and not the competition. Do what you feel.
Reader Question:
How much would you give to sit in a room and listen to Lord Finesse tell some of his greatest record digging stories?
Seriously? Maybe a leg…..kidney….it’s Lord Fucking Finesse! I’ll give whatever is necessary to hear the God speak!
How much would you give to sit in a room and listen to Lord Finesse tell some of his greatest record digging stories?
^ a peanut. cant go no higher than that
Finesse gets props over here.
U an MC Jack? U battle Cruger?
You a MC Jack? U the one who battled Cruger or have i got that wrong?
“How much would you give to sit in a room and listen to Lord Finesse tell some of his greatest record digging stories?”
I’d give my mum and a cup of tea. He speaks clear knowledge and is a humble man.
I wouldn’t give anything to hear record digging stories.
That’s just silly!
What is there to gain from hearing about a man paying ludicrous amounts of money for rare records?
I would pay dearly for………….
Production tips,
Studio sessions with D.I.T.C.
BIG L stories.
Maybe an unheard mid 90’s beat tape would open my wallet
but digging stories not so much.
Diggers never give up anything good on the subject anyway, its a very competitive sport. Most of it is bragging and boasting about what you have found or payed for records. Also a large amount of white lies sneak out about what records are found………..nobody beats THE BIZ
A little off topic but did I see a Big L shirt under that NY jacket?
Finesse is great, absolutely amazing I wish this would have been more in depth. Great watch, cool MPC idea; however I find it a shame that it takes a commercial for a MPC Watch to get a video of this man just gracing the surface of crate digging.
If you have not checked it out the Turntable watch (i think it was a post on here maybe a yr ago) is really cool as well.
Blimey, you had a bad day?
Does anybody know in which Record Store the video was shot?
yeah its on 12th street.. manhattan, nyc..

I dug what he said & I’d give up a days pay just to digest some of his Wisdom…
What more could you get from a veteran!
Great words of wisdom by Finesse!! Boy, I remember a mom & pop’s record store down the road from me when I was a teen. I popped in there one day & saw that Lord Finesse & DJ Mike Smooth tape! I was like “who the hell is Lord Finesse?” I took a chance & bought that joint! It was one of the best hip hop purchases ever! I wore that tape out & was a fan since! Great little post!
You let ya tape rock till ya tape popped lls ….
Sinosure you still got ya Mv?
Yeah bruh, I do! I haven’t messed with it much in recent months due to breaking my left ankle at work. I did it March & I’m just now getting through physical threapy to go back to work. So for me beatmaking & getting any new gear has been a back burner thing. So hopefully that’s about to now change, lol!!! And as far as that Lord Finesse tape, it didn’t pop, lol!! I still have it around here somewhere!! One thing is for sure, I damn sure let the tape rock, lol!!
best record shop in manhattan. period.
@wwpcproffit
what a cool cat – i like how he says it aint about records, drum machines or the competition. nice
Classic little video. I’d give up several hours of my day to sit in a room and listen to Finesse talk digging stories.
True Pioneer right there..
freaking awesome. thanks for posting.
that MPC watch though>>>>
If Finesse’s mentality got filtered down this generation of cats, Hip-Hop would be so much better off. Hell, R&B too, for that matter.
My god!! What is that beat starting at the beginning of this video? Anybody know???
